Report this ad A big part of Red Dead Redemption 2 is hunting animals and skinning their carcasses for pelts, which can then be sold for money, donated to the camp, or to craft special items. Some players may be curious as to how to store their pelts so that they don’t go rotten, but it’s a little complicated. The only way to “store” pelts in is by giving them to Pearson at camp or taking them to the trapper. Any pelts donated to the camp will automatically be held onto by Pearson for crafting upgrades like better satchels and the like, whereas the trapper can put together some of the more extravagant cosmetic items with the pelts taken to him. Whenever players kill a legendary animal in Red Dead Redemption 2, they should make a trip to the trapper to give him the pelt. It’s been reported that if players lose that pelt on the way for some reason, it will still be in the trapper’s inventory and can be used for crafting, though they will miss out on the money that the trapper would have given them for it.
Note that we were unable to test this theory, so players should still try their best to make it to the trapper. The trapper moves around the open world, but has a permanent residence in Saint Denis. Here is a map of all his locations (please click the image for a closer view): If players want to hold on to their animal pelts for some reason, they can technically “store” them on the back of their horse. After skinning an animal, simply take the skin to the rear of the horse and hold in the button to throw it on the horse’s back. However, as previously mentioned, this method of storage is only temporary, as the pelt will degrade over time, and players will also run the risk of it falling off their horse and losing it forever.
